Online therapy for adults in Florida
Out-of-network telehealth psychotherapy from Matthew Sexton, LCSW, NATC — a clinician licensed in Florida who works with high-achieving Floridians carrying more than they show, adult children of difficult parents, healthcare workers, and survivors of coercive or antagonistic relationships. Depth-oriented work for complex trauma, narcissistic-abuse recovery, burnout, and high-functioning anxiety, conducted over secure video from wherever you are in the state.

Why telehealth makes sense in Florida
Florida is large, fast-growing, and unevenly served. Many counties are federally designated Mental Health Professional Shortage Areas, and the wait for a specialist in complex trauma or narcissistic-abuse recovery can run months, especially outside the big metros. Telehealth erases the drive and the waitlist geography: if you are physically in Florida, you can work with an in-state-licensed clinician from Miami to the Panhandle without leaving home.
What I help with
The work here is depth-oriented and pattern-focused rather than worksheet-driven. These are the specialties clients most often come to Florida telehealth for — each has its own detailed guide:
- Narcissistic abuse recovery
- Complex PTSD
- Burnout & moral injury
- High-functioning anxiety
- Healthcare-worker therapy
- Executive pressure & isolation
- Adult children of difficult parents
How online therapy works in Florida
Sessions are 50 minutes over secure, encrypted video. Because telehealth is regulated by the state where you are sitting, you need to be physically located in Florida (or New York, Maine, or Delaware) at the time of each session. That is a licensing rule, not a preference.
This is an out-of-network practice at $225 per session. That means no insurance company sits between us deciding how many sessions you are allowed or what you are permitted to work on. After each session you receive a superbill you can submit to your plan for possible out-of-network reimbursement. Whether that math works for you is one of the things the first call is for.
Serving adults across Florida: Miami · Orlando · Tampa · Jacksonville · Fort Lauderdale · St. Petersburg · Tallahassee, and everywhere in between.
Frequently asked questions
Are you licensed to provide therapy in Florida?
Yes. Matthew Sexton, LCSW is licensed as a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in Florida, and also in New York, Maine, and Delaware. Telehealth is regulated by the state where the client is physically located during the session, so you must be in Florida at the time of each appointment.
Can therapy really be done online in Florida?
Yes. The APA Guidelines for the Practice of Telepsychology recognize secure video as a legitimate format, and outcome research finds telehealth psychotherapy comparable to in-person care for trauma, anxiety, and depression. The work — reality-testing, nervous-system regulation, attachment repair — translates without loss to video, and many clients find it easier to open up from a space they control.
Do you take Florida insurance?
No. This is an out-of-network practice at $225 per session. A superbill is provided after each session, which you can submit to your insurer for possible out-of-network reimbursement depending on your plan. Out-of-network means no insurer sits between us deciding what care you are allowed to have.
What if I travel out of Florida?
Because telehealth is governed by where you are sitting during the session, appointments happen when you are physically in Florida (or in New York, Maine, or Delaware, where Matthew is also licensed). If you are traveling elsewhere, we simply schedule around it. This is a licensing rule, not a preference.
